Dr. Zelman received his undergraduate degree from Duke University and his M.D from the University of Texas Health Science Center. He completed an Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine, followed by a clinical and research fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine and a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology, all at Brigham and Women’s Hospital-Harvard Medical School. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Medicine, and Interventional Cardiology. In addition to practicing Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology at Cape Cod and Falmouth Hospitals, Dr. Zelman has cared for patients at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Tufts Medical Center, St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, and Boston University Hospital. Since joining the medical staff at Cape Cod Hospital in 1990, Dr. Zelman has been recognized as instrumental in developing the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, the Interventional Cardiology Service, the Cardiology Hospitalist Program, and the Structural Cardiology Program. He also helped to bring cardiac surgery and vascular interventional procedures to Cape Cod and to develop the hospital’s electrophysiology services. Dr. Zelman was featured in an NBC Dateline episode that highlighted him performing the first ever acute myocardial infarction lifesaving angioplasty procedure in a non-academic medical center in Massachusetts. Since that time, he has performed thousands of these procedures and is the only physician to have been recognized by the Commonwealth as having statistically better than expected outcomes for coronary artery intervention. In 2015, after receiving specialized training in Munich, Germany, Dr. Zelman performed the first Transcatheter Aortic Valvuloplasty (TAVR) procedure at Cape Cod Hospital. Since then, he has performed every one of the over one thousand TAVR procedures performed on Cape Cod, as well as hundreds of other complex cardiac procedures (e.g., Watchman Left Atrial procedures and Mitraclip Catheter Mitral Valve repairs). Dr. Zelman is proud to be recognized as one of the most experienced and accomplished cardiologists in New England and is known for his dedication to delivering the highest quality of care to each and every one of his patients.
